Conread Nkosi

Conread Nkosi, a Malawian teenager, used his ingenuity to create a clean energy solution for his village, where only half of the population has access to electricity. Using a primitive yet effective method, Conread harnessed the power of the local river by modifying an old maize sheller to create a turbine.
This invention powered his community without any cost, providing electricity for essential needs like education and home use. By reducing reliance on charcoal, Conread’s innovation also contributed to the preservation of the local environment, showcasing the potential of African youth to address energy challenges creatively.
