Essa Mbiye Faal, born on March 13, 1966, is a Gambian lawyer and a prominent figure in international law. Faal has served as a defense counsel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and played a key role in leading the prosecution of the Darfur investigations. In his home country of Gambia, he is regarded as an influential political figure, with some even speculating that he could be a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections.

Faal’s prominence grew further when he was appointed chief prosecutor of the Gambian Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC) in 2018, where he has been instrumental in pushing for justice and accountability for past human rights violations.
